Eye for an Eye: Arena Preview #005

By |February 4th, 2017|Development, Eye for an Eye: Arena, Ignis, News, Rise of the Occulites|

G'day everyone, Our last update looked a how to play Eye for an Eye: Arena, as well as showing off a little bit of gameplay. We hope that you've had a chance to check them out - we'd love to know what you think! We've also had quite a few requests for a print and play, so that is something that we are in the midst of organising. It will likely contain two fighters only, with non-final art, but should give players a good idea of how the game itself plays. So look for that in the near future. This [...]

Eye for an Eye: Arena Preview – How to Play and Gameplay Videos

By |January 28th, 2017|Eye for an Eye: Arena, Floris, Gameplay, How to Play, News, Palaudis, Rise of the Occulites, Rules and FAQ|

G'day everyone, This preview is all about the gameplay of Eye for an Eye: Arena. There are two videos, one that tells you a bit about how to play the game and another that is one two player round of gameplay between Chief Grublic (Palaudis) and Chief Banksia (Floris). We plan to do several other gameplay videos over the next bit of time with different characters and player counts, so let us know in the comments what you'd like to see. I won't clog the post up with too much text and will just get straight to the videos. Please bear [...]

G'day everyone, Well, here we are at the third preview for 'Eye for an Eye: Arena'. We've been introduced to Chiefs Grublic (Palaudis) and Riparian (Hydris) so far, learned a little bit about what the game is and where it came from. Where shall we go now? On the next update, can you cover...? This preview will introduce the Floris Occulite Chief Banksia, but we'd love to hear what you'd like the next update to cover from the options below: RULES - Part One of a look at the rules GAMEPLAY - A gameplay video of a round or two of 'Eye [...]

Eye for an Eye: Arena Preview #002

By |January 8th, 2017|Eye for an Eye: Arena, Hydris, News, Rise of the Occulites|

G'day everyone, Welcome to the second preview for our upcoming realtime arena combat game 'Eye for an Eye: Arena'. Thanks to those that emailed me, subscribed to the blog or commented on the previous post. We really appreciate it and hope that you continue to enjoy these previews as we release them. What were you going for with the design? Like the Occulites (and many of our other designs), Eye for an Eye: Arena certainly evolved over time. I have always enjoyed the tactical challenges that skirmish games present to players and you can see this in the way the [...]

Eye for an Eye: Arena Preview #001

By |January 4th, 2017|Development, Eye for an Eye: Arena, Palaudis, Rise of the Occulites|

G'day everyone, Welcome to the first of many previews for our upcoming realtime arena combat game 'Eye for an Eye: Arena'. As we lead up to its launch on Kickstarter later in the year, each of these previews will explore one of the characters, an aspect of gameplay, or something else of interest about the game. We encourage you to ask lots of questions and if there is something you'd like to know about the game or the setting, to ask away! Tell me a bit about the setting Much like our first game Dawn - Rise of the Occulites, [...]

Introducing Business Card Battles

By |October 29th, 2016|Business Card Battles, Conventions, Development, News, Rise of the Occulites, Rules and FAQ|

Business cards are great for creating awareness of your brand and increasing the odds that people will check out your stuff after they've seen you. However there isn't much incentive for a customer to keep these in the long term and they will invariably get thrown in the bin at some point. This can mean two things: Your company can once again get lost within the sea of other amazing companies But more importantly, that business card then becomes rubbish and the resources (both environmental and monetary) are wasted. When we decided to get some business cards made up for the [...]

Finding the balance… a lesson in not overwhelming your audience

By |March 14th, 2016|Development, News, Rise of the Occulites, Sungem Run|

Sungem Run is a deduction game for two to eight players that uses dice manipulation. It is the first game in the Rise of the Occulites series of games that features all ten Occulites Tribes as well as the Luftles and Podmothine. It will be Darwin Games' next release later in the year. Sungem Run has been in development for many years now, has seen many playtesters from many different walks of life and has seen many changes across the years. I thought that I would write a little bit about what Shae and I have learned over the years about [...]

Introducing ‘Punny Occulites’

By |November 28th, 2015|Punny Occulites|

'Punny Occulites' is a fun little distraction for me that has emerged over the last little bit of time. Being a father, I am entitled to wield the 'Dad Joke' with deadly accuracy. So I thought, why not merge my favourite characters, Occulite, with one of my favourite pastimes, puns and dad jokes? As such, 'Punny Occulites' has formed. These comics will be released sporadically and mainly so I can chuckle to myself. If you happen to enjoy them though, I would love it if you could let me know! Anyway, without any further fuss, I present the first 'Punny [...]

Using the figures for Song of Blades and Heroes

By |September 18th, 2015|Dawn, Downloads, Rise of the Occulites, Rules and FAQ, Song of Blades and Heroes|

G'day guys, Some of you may know that before the Occulites, I helped playtest some of the Song of Blade and Heroes expansions by Ganesha Games. I also wrote 'Song of Fur and Buttons' (a stand alone narrative campaign using teddy bear and frog miniatures from Eureka Miniatures) and 'Ghost Rangers', both of which you can find at the Ganesha Games website. Recently,  I have had a couple of people asking whether or not I had profiles to use the Occulites in Song of Blades and Heroes. I used to (and still do) really enjoy that miniatures game. I think that Andrea has [...]
