Palaudis

Palaudis Occulites were not the strongest of the Tribes, but what they lacked in strength, they made up for with their compassionate nature. It has been told among many a campfire of the day that the Palaudis and Luftles forged their ongoing friendship. One particular Palaudis Tribe were scouting near the edge of their swamp when they saw smoke billowing from up ahead, along with muffled cries. Upon investigation, a local Floris Tribe had found a Luftle Nest and was smoking them out. With the all the exits blocked but the main entrance, one by one the little creatures were rushing out, straight into Floris hands and into reed baskets. The Palaudis Chief knew this was wrong and ordered his Tribe to fan out along the treeline. And so it was that one by one, the Tribe as a whole, silently took out each of the Floris Tribe Members until it was only their Chief remaining. The Floris Chief, who had been distracted by his apparent triumph was then confronted by the entire Palaudis Tribe. Croaking menacingly, brandishing their eucalyptus leaf laden spears and holding their bark shields firm, they slowly advanced. The Floris Chief was arrogant and rushed in to greet them… but the Palaudis as a group, were too strong and pushed him back into the bushland. The Luftles were freed and a every lasting bond was forged. Word spread. Now it is a rare time indeed that you do not see a Palaudis Occulite without a Luftle companion. Strength in family, strength in compassion.

Palaudis instantly win against Luftles not due to combat, but due to them joining the Palaudis willingly. They have an average Combat Ability, but are strengthened by their Luftle brethren.

Hydris

Very early on, Hydris Occulites learned a lesson that they wouldn’t soon forget. They needed to be adaptable. They needed to learn from their mistakes and use those lessons to make them stronger. It is said that this stemmed from a chance encounter with an Ignis Tribe. It was late in one of the early seasons and this particular Hydris Tribe desperately needed Sungems before the Long Dark. The Hydris were exploring upstream near a mineral heavy area of rich, volcanic soils and came across a stash of small Sungems, neatly piled on a flat stone. Their Chief ordered them to wait patiently to assess the situation before rushing in. It wasn’t long before a lone Ignis Tribe Member lumbered up to the stone with an armful of Sungems. Instead of waiting to see if there were more about, the Chief led a charge from the water and across the hot volcanic soil. They didn’t even reach the stone before steam began to rise from the ground and their finned feet began to burn. Caught off guard and unprepared, the Hydris Tribe were soundly defeated by the rest of the Ignis Tribe, who came running at the howls of pain. It was an embarrassing defeat, but one that they wouldn’t ever let happen again. It started a rivalry with the local Ignis Tribe that endures to this day.
Generally being on the weaker end of the Occulite scale, Hydris have become quite social and accepting of most other Tribes. This also lets them study and understand their foes, so if they ever need to engage, they will know their weaknesses. This was demonstrated beautifully against a Boletus Tribe that was new to the area. The Hydris watched their spore clouds affect their enemies vision, confusing them. When the Boletus, who were cruel and deceitful attacked a seemingly unsuspecting Hydris Tribe, a simple skin full of water was all that was needed to clear the air and win them the day. Mistakes are lessons, lessons are victories.

Hydris instantly win against Ignis as long as they have the Terrain Advantage and against Boletus, who they do not trust. They have a below average Combat Ability, but they gather information and learn from other Tribe’s mistakes, exploiting weaknesses and becoming stronger than you would think. Never underestimate a Hydris.
